A literature review would be helpful in order to identify different elements helpful for supplier selection process while ANP methodologies would be able to decide on the several available variables so that relative importance of the variables can be identified. Hence, by selecting the supplier selection, criteria for supplier selection process would be helpful in order to securing the supply chain (Peter, 2006,). By securing the supply chain through supplier selection process variability can be reduced through the overall supply chain hence better efficiency can be achieved through the well-managed supply chain of the organisation.

Literature review

A well-framed supply chain management strategy allows the smooth flow of information and goods among customers, suppliers and manufacturer of the goods and also allows customization so as to meet the customer requirements. High level of coordination among the supply chain members is one of the key sources for attaining competitive advantage for any business (Barney, 2001). Hence, the main objectives of the supply chain management strategies are to ensure regular material flow between buyer and supplier, logistic activities and efficient utilization of resources so as to meet customer requirements.

In order to secure the present supply chain activities from the dynamics of thebusiness environment, it is advisable to maintain a strong supply chain management system which has strong coordination among its members. For maintaining good and economic benefits with the supply chain members of the system, it is important to choose the supply chain members properly (Kearney, 2009). Hence, the suppliers which are a vital part of the overall supply chain should be selected with immense care so that strategic relationship can be established with them which is of mutual benefits. There are several important criteria in order to secure the proper supply chain management system and for the present study, some of the important criteria which would be considered for supply chain management are a competitive advantage, customer centricity, use of information technology, strategic purchase and support from top management etc.

All these five factors are the key to a well-maintained supply chain system as customer focus is important to link which connects internal processes of the firm with the customer requirementwhich leads to the customer satisfaction (Davidow and Uttal, 2004). In order to enhance the customer satisfaction, efficient products and services would be required which not only would enhance customer satisfaction but also would enable better customer relationship management which is a key source of business for the firms. As a part of customer focus, some of the key variables which would be included a focus on changing needs of customers, satisfying customer needs through suitable products and fast response to customer complaints.

The second attribute for supply chain management strategy is a competitive advantage, which is a common theme for current age business organisations and allows them to focus on some key criteria which would differentiate their offering from other players in the market.  Competitive advantage building is a continuous process for the organisations and some of the key variables of the competitive advantage are a focus on innovation, quality performance and new product development (Schlesinger and Heskett, 2008). Hence, these three factors would be responsible for attaining and sustain competitive advantage for business which would prioritize the products and offerings of a firm from its competitors.

The third attribute for securing successful supply chain management system is the strategic purchasing. In order to ensure strategic purchasing for a firm, it needs to maintain a strong base of the limited number of suppliers which are capable of supplying required goods within given timeframe. For strategic purchase as a construct, there are three main factors which are long term planning for purchase, provision for mitigation of risk and measurement and analysis of purchase performance(Wieland & Wallenburg, 2011). In order to make a purchasing decision as strategically beneficial for the organisation, these three key factors need to be considered. Analysis of the purchase performance is a key component as until and unless we would not analyze the purchase decisions we would not be in a position to make put the pros and cons for these decisions hence improvement in purchasing decisions can’t be recommended without analysing the purchase performance of an organisation.

All strategic moves in an organisation can’t be accomplished without support from the top management. Hence top management should have a constant focus on improvement of the supply chain management system and attaining competitive advantage through supply chain improvement process (Jacoby, 2009). In order to have top management support some of the key factors which would be helpful are the strategic role of purchasing function, engagement of company mission & vision for supply chain management strategies, the need for the inter-organisational information system and accounting customer needs.

Fifth and last factor for securing supply chain management are the need of information technology in order to secure the supply chain management strategies. It is important to share the information with the supply chain partner in order to build an economic and better supply chain management system which can be accomplished with the help of sharing information through information technology (Blanchard, 2010). Under information technology utilisation construct there are certain factors which would be helpful to attain the goals of the supply chain which are faster transactions with the help of information technology, coordination among different departments which would be attained through information technology and direct information sharing capacity with the supplier. Hence, these three main factors need to be maintained in order to enhance the efficiency of the supply chain systems.


In order to determine the factors which are responsible for maintaining secured supply chain management system decision-making tools are required which can decide among several available variables. Hence in order to make the decision about the factors ensuring secured supply chain strategy it is important to define the objectives which we want to achieve through the supply chain strategy so that decision making can be done accordingly. After defining the overall objective of the supply chain strategies, it is important to decide about some of the constructs which would help in meeting the targeted objectives of the Security Management for supply chain Assignment And  supply chain strategy.

These constructs would be divided into specific factors which are responsible for securing the supply chain management system in an organisation. Factors responsible for supply chain management securing would be evaluated for knowing optimal factors and based on the responsible factors alternatives would be given in order to secure the supply chain. We have identified objective for the research to secure the overall supply chain management through five prime constructs which are customer centricity, competitive advantage, strategic purchase, support from top management and use of information technology in order to secure supply chain through information sharing among the members of the supply chain (Zhang and Dilts, 2004). Case study method would be used in order to highlight the approach for finalisation of the supply chain elements which are critical for securing supply chain management strategies.

Case study and discussion

The present research would undertake a case study of one of the electronics giant in Taiwan named COM co Ltd which has implemented supply chain strategies for securing the overall supply chain. COM co Ltd was established in the year 1998 in order to meet customer requirements in the field of IC substrates, IC packaging and PCB manufacturing. Taiwan is one of the largest markets in the world for electronic products and in the age of globalisation COM co Ltd was facing immense competition from its rival firms. Hence, COM co Ltd has devised the idea of securing their supply chain management in order to build competitive advantage so that they can sustain in the market with a competitive edge.

In order to build the Security Management for supply chain Assignment some of the major focus areas devised by the firm were customer focus, building competitive advantage, use of technology for innovation and meeting customer demands. Hence, the identified criteria’s were used in order to decide the priority for each variable so as to secure the supply chain strategies. An expert group of 15 people was formed in order to decide priorities regarding the factors responsible for securing supply chain management system and analytical network process was used in order to make a decision regarding the responsible factors (Pagh et al, 1997). The constructs and variables identified for securing supply chain by the expert group were as follows:

In order to found out the criteria for secured supply chain formation, an expert group of 15 people was formed in order to build the network framework for which contains several constructs and advantages & disadvantages of these constructs can be identified. The second step for decision making was to provide relative importance to each of the variables which have been given in the table above under different constructs (Skjott-Larsen et al, 2003). The importance given by the expert group for each of the variables can be given as under:

As shown in above table it is clear that the use of information technology to enable efficient supply chain management is having the highest priority among all the available constructs. Also, among the given factors it has been found out that capability of an organisation to share data with their supplier is most important factor followed by long-term purchase planning and risk avoidance in purchase planning of the organisation.

Hence from the table above we can find out the priority for each of the factor and constructs thus, the final importance level for available supplies can be obtained. Hence, by using this framework optimal supplier can be found out which would satisfy the required criteria. Hence, from the above results, it can be found out that purpose of supply chain management strategies is to improve the performance of the supply chain system (Ketchen & Hult, 2006). Hence based on the above data expert group in organisations would be able to identify a best suitable supplier for the organisation. From the above research, it has been found out that long term purchase planning and capability of direct sharing of data with the supplier are two important variables for maintaining strategic supply chain management system.

Another important finding of the above research is the integration of supply chain management system in the mission and vision of the organisation so that due importance can be given to the management of efficient supply chain mechanism. Hence, the above-purposed model can be further used for supplier evaluation for establishing an efficient supply chain management system in any kind of industry.


The present paper aimed at finding out the supplier evaluation tools in order to maintain a secured supply chain management. In order to find out the secured supply chain management system, five major constructs were identified which are customer focus, competitive advantage, strategic purchase, support from top management and information technology as the major enabling factor for the supply chain management system. Analytical network process was used in order to make a decision regarding the importance level of each of the variable and their constructs. It was found out from the study that IT as an enabling technology for supply chain management is the strongest construct while long-term planning and capability to share data with the supplier are important factors to be taken care for securing the supply chain.
