Charles Darwin University (CDU) is a recently formed university established in year 2004. It is a merger of Northern Territory University (NTU) of Darwin and Centralia College of Alice Springs. Current strength of university after these mergers is 22083 students as of year 2011. It has many campuses in different part of the country like Darwin suburb of Casuarina, the city of Palmerston, and the towns of Alice Springs, Katherine and Nhulunbuy, with smaller training centres in Jabiru, Tennant Creek and Yulara. University offers wide variety of courses, and runs both full time and part time courses. The university is currently facing two major problems due to which it is not able to increase its profitability and improve its current infrastructure. The problems are as follows:

  • Many of the school graduates are staying away from campuses and due to this they are not able to attend classes regularly.
  • Even though the programs are well designed, few of the students from other states which would not like to alive in NT and hence not undertaking programs offered.

The management of university is trying to find a solution of both these problems and thinking to implement online systems using Open University and seek learning techniques. Both these techniques will be capable to provide online educations to students who found it difficult to attend the classes within the university because of distance.
